Presenting a series of new composition works in partnership with Earth In Common created by the Gaelic community in Edinburgh celebrating the Gaelic language and Nature through a series of outdoor learning opportunities. This session is recommended for children in P1-P4.

About the Event

Join us on Leith Community croft for a programme of workshops and events exploring nature, sound and the Gaelic language. Deborah Shaw composer will work with Gaelic Language specialist to deliver song writing and instrument making workshops for all ages, and compose with the community a programme of music to be performed in celebration of the new Earth In Common Building in Autumn 2022.

Activities:

*Exploring nature, collecting sounds from the croft using hand held recorders , identifying birdcall

* Gaelic Songwriting / Storytelling  Stories read by Gaelic facilitator, creative writing exercise

* Instrument Making, making our own instruments, and recording their sounds. Composing short pieces from these and adding our Gaelic words into the composition

* Recording  our sounds in Ableton Live music programming software. Learning how to play our songs in a live setting, recording our own words, making nature soundscapes, recording song if we feel confident.

* Making a permanent piece of sound art for the Croft
